At Tore’s Home, the focus of our attention is on providing our residents with a quality of life in spite of the challenges the aging process presents. With that focus in mind, our homes have been built to achieve the most home-like atmosphere possible. Unlike hospital-like facilities and sprawling city-like campuses, our homes are small and intimate, giving our residents a real sense of “family”. All of our residents have private rooms and each home averages only six to ten residents. Set in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, residents can enjoy looking out to the scenic beauty of nature from their own rooms, or sitting with friends on a porch. Small gardens are available for residents to show off their green thumbs by growing their favorite flowers or vegetables, or just sitting back and watching others do the work. We provide comfortable and easily accessible transportation to medical-related appointments, outings and special events, as well as transportation to family get-togethers and special occasions.

Recognizing that individual needs and desires vary – and that they also evolve over time – Tore’s Home® offers three distinct levels of care: independent living, assisted living and extended care. Our approach is flexible and accommodating, taking into account not only individual medical needs but also personal tastes and preferences, to create a care program that is carefully tailored – and decidedly not “institutional.”

What payment sources do you accept?

Most private Long Term Care Insurance policies will pay for the care at Tore's Home®. When private resources are depleted Tore's Home® has set aside several beds for residents who qualify for Medicaid reimbursement. Residents with limited resources must prequalify to enter Tore's Home®'s Medicaid Program prior to admission. Medicare will cover most charges incurred if the resident has a skilled need that requires a Registered Nurse or a Physical Therapist. These skilled professionals will come to the facilities or Tore's Home® will transport the residents to Transylvania Community Hospital's Outpatient department to have such tasks performed.

Does my loved one ever have to move?

Since we opened our facility in 1996 we have never asked anyone to leave because they required too much care. There may be situations where our rules and regulations will not allow us to keep somebody until the end. However, we have done this work since 1996 and we have never had a resident who had to permanently leave the facility due to extensive care. However, our policy is that if a resident starts requiring extra heavy care and is no longer mentally competent we reserve the right to move this resident to another Tore's Home® facility that has residents at similar care level.

Is transportation to doctor's appointments and outings an extra charge?

We do not charge extra for transportation to doctor's appointments and outings. We provide labor and transportation. The residents pay for any extra charges incurred with these outings. For example, if we go to the movies the residents pay for their own and staff's tickets. Tore's Home® will pay for transportation and wages for staff.

How often do you go on outings?

Unless we have emergencies we go on outings at least once per week. We typically go more. Our rules and regulation requires us to do outings at a minimum of one outing every two months so we definitely exceed this requirement.

When are your visiting hours?

Family and friends can visit any time.

Can I bring my pets in to visit?

Yes, please do. Pets are great therapy.

Can my loved one bring pets into the facility to live?

Yes, we will allow certain pets to live in the facility. Contact us for more detailed information.

Can I bring food into the facility or use the kitchen?

Yes, please bring special foods that your loved one enjoys eating. Our kitchen is yours except for when we are preparing meals for our residents. Also, remember our residents can help themselves to snacks any time unless we have doctor's orders to the contrary.

Tore's Home® Residences

Each facility averages only six residents and is wheelchair and handicap accessible. With only private rooms unless we admit couples there are abundant opportunities for privacy. Staffing ratios are second to none. Tore's Home® Residences provide a comfortable safe family atmosphere in lovely Brevard neighborhoods.

Tore's Home® offers a customized activity program tailored to each resident's needs. Our goal is to facilitate your activities to what you are accustomed to when you lived at home. Our residents enjoy a variety of hobbies and enjoy socializing with visitors, staff and other residents. Activities are organized to include all of our residents, but no activities or outings are "mandatory." We respect our residents rights to quiet time and privacy.
